The active ingredient in coffee is caffeine which serves in blocking the effects of an inhibitory neurotransmitter called Adenosine in the brain thereby increasing neuronal firing in the brain and the release of other neurotransmitters like dopamine and nor epinephrine Out of the total Coffee export from India the highest contribution is from Cochin port .Coffee production in Kerala is projected to touch 59,000 tonnes in 2009-10. A mix of selected clones from among Arabica and Robusta variety planted at appropriate spacing taking different planting zones and altitudes into account is what we have in our Plantations. We pick at the right time and whether dry to Cherry at the correct moisture levels or Pulp to Parchment and dry to the exact specification everything is done as per the book bearing ultimately quality in mind. Our Mount Estate, Tangumalai and Kolikaam is very ideal place for coffee plantations. Very large scale conversion from tea to coffee is going on these three estates.
